Doors are a fundamental element of any house or business. They separate spaces and protect you from the weather and any unwanted visitors. They’re also an opportunity to give your home or business style and warmth. Have you considered the different types of sliding doors?
There are 3 main Sliding Door options that we’ll discuss to help you make an informed decision, when choosing the door that suits your budget and personal style preference. Note: When comparing quotes, make sure that you compare apples with apples. Different sliding door types make use of different types of material and hardware consequently resulting in a difference in price.
The 3 main Sliding Door types that we offer and will discuss include:
- 700-Series- a.k.a Patio- and Domestic Sliding Doors
- Elite Sliding Doors
- Palace Sliding Doors
700-Series Sliding Door
The 700-Sereis Sliding door is also known as a Patio or Domestic Sliding Door. These are the most common and inexpensive Sliding Doors aluminium has to offer.
- The use of lightweight aluminium, makes for a more affordable door.
- Standard sizes are manufactured in bulk, also contributing to affordability whereas custom sizes add to the final manufactured price of the door.
- These doors include plastic handles with small latch locks (the door can only be locked from the inside).
- Patio door night-locks can be added for extra security (a small pin lock that works with a key, only from the inside).
- These doors include nylon wheels that have to be replaced roughly once a year.
- 700-Series Sliding Doors may be inexpensive, but are not the safest options available, they are easily accessible.
- Standard and non-standard sizes are widely available in Natural, White, Charcoal and Bronze.
- Custom colours are available upon request at an increased price and manufacturing timeline.
- These doors (standard sizes only) include Toughened Safety Glass, which adds to the Safety of your home or business but not to the security thereof. (See our blog on Glass)
Elite Sliding Door
The Elite Sliding Door is slightly more expensive than the 700-series Door, but still affordable.
- Elite Sliding Doors are more durable than the 700-Series Siding Doors and adds value to your property.
- Standard sizes are manufactured in bulk, contributing to affordability whereas custom sizes add to the final manufactured price of the door.
- These doors include stainless steel handles and hook locks (lock and key that works from both the in- and outside).

- Elite doors offer more security than the 700-Series Sliding Door due to it’s durability and locking mechanisms used.
Palace Sliding Door
The Palace Sliding Door is at the top of the range in sliding doors that we offer. They are not too different from the Elite Sliding Door with only a small difference in price.

When not choosing the 700-Series Sliding Door, we prefer the Palace- to the Elite Sliding Door due to the definite “ease of sliding” that the Palace Door offers above the Elite. Clients are more than welcome to visit our showrooms in both our Pretoria and Bela- Bela branches, to help make an informed decision on which door type to choose for their projects.
